FOR the second home match running Hutton Cranswick United could be forgiven for thinking they had really upset the ‘footballing gods’ as they were denied a point despite a rousing second half performance.

With the weather at Rotsea Lane turning out to be far better than the forecast – though there was a blustery south westerly blowing - United kicked off attacking the railway end without skipper Darren Parker,

Luke D Taylor returned to midfield after injury and Tom Chippendale made his first start in the right back slot - with Paul Taylor taking the captain’s armband

The visitors held sway initially and defensive indecision by United allowed Chris Hanson to put his side ahead after just five minutes.

Hanson volleyed home a low Darren Bird cross from the right as the home defence looked on

United responded, though, and Andy Martin headed on a Tim Taylor centre, but keeper Adam Ward tipped it over the bar before the offside flag was spotted.

Main thought they were denied the chance to double their lead when their loud appeals for a penalty were ignored and spiky striker Ryan White went into the book for dissent.

But the visitors did make it two on 34 minutes as skipper Dave Tracey was left unattended in the box and rose to nod home a Bird free kick.

Tracey then found himself joining White in seeing yellow after clattering into Rich Gibson who had neatly turned his man just inside

It was clear that United’s plan for the second 45 minutes had to be to stop Main playing by tightening up in defence and showing more vim and vigour across the middle.

And that was what they did, playing some really pleasing attacking football, with neat passing and good running off the ball that clearly unsettled their opponents. They were getting in the tackles as well.

But United still faced danger at the other end and keeper Leon Sewell made a smart save to stop Craig Fletcher adding a third Main goal.

The home side maintained their attacking momentum though, and deservedly pulled a goal back on 68 minutes.

A Mark Frampton shot on the angle was parried out to the feet of Andy Martin who lashed it into the roof of the net from just inside the box.
