PLANS to build five detached houses on a site in Leconfield look set to be turned down by East Riding Council.
An application by Cammack Builders Ltd to develop land south west of Mere Glen in Leconfield will go before the council's eastern area planning sub-committee on Monday (August 11).
Planning officers are recommending that the application should be
refused because they say it does not accord with planning policies relating to sustainability and housing supply.
Seven letters of objection to the application have been submitted by nearby residents, who claim it is an overdevelopment of the site, that increased traffic will endanger pedestrians, and the scheme could have an impact on flooding in the area. Objectors also claim that local schools and services are not adequate to accommodate more houses.
But Leconfield Parish Council recommends that the application should be approved, pointing out that the developer is continuing to liaise with the local planning authority on drainage.
The applicants point out that the village has good public transport links and services. They say the site is mostly made up of the rear of gardens from three houses that face onto Main Street, claiming the design is characteristic of a rural setting.
Planning officers say the site is within Leconfield's development limits and is previously-developed land.
They say the village has a range of services, but say there are a number of plots with planning consent which have not yet been developed, and say the applicants have not provided convincing evidence to show that there is a need for more houses.
