WOLDS heritage is the subject of a new exhibition to be launched in Thixendale, thanks to the efforts of a group of dedicated volunteers.
The High Wolds Heritage Group have put together a free heritage exhibition about the history of the high Wolds villages after securing a Lottery grant of £46,000 last month.
The exhibition, to be held at Thixendale Village Hall, will include photo
graphs and historical information about the high Wolds villages including Fimber, Sledmere, Friday-thorpe, Wetwang, Towthorpe, Leavening, Huggate and more.
Chris Whitfield, a member of the High Wolds Heritage Group, said: "There is a lot of interest.
"It is a lovely group which all the villages are involved in and it is suprising how many people who are new to the villages want to get involved."
The exhibition is the first stage of the High Wolds Heritage Project which will also see information leaflets published and oral histories collected from local residents as a way of preserving and promoting the heritage of this part of the Wolds.
Local schools have been invited to go along to discover more about the history of the villages and the exhibition will be open to the public every Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm between July 13 and July 27.
To mark the grand opening, a talk on the features of St Mary's Church, Thixendale, will be given by Phil Thomas from 2pm on July 12.
Tickets cost £3.50. To reserve a seat please contact Lynne Boyes, tel (01377) 288401.
