A well-attended meeting on Thursday, November 20 at Driffield Rugby Club enjoyed a talk given by Mr Terry Slocombe QGM, BEM a retired Divisional Commander of the West Riding Constabulary.
The often hilarious account about The Lighter Side Of The Law had all members alert with aspects of his life as a child and there after when he joined the police force as a cadet in 1961.
His description of work then compared with that of the modern force was wonderfully illustrated with a selection of stories supported with a superb ability to act, and props pulled from a large bag.
These garments Terry donned to good effect leaving the audience helpless with laughter.
His portrayal of life as a PC and that of a man who rose through the ranks was quite enlightening, in particular with regard to the lack of health and safety issues.
The next meeting will be held on December 11 with Mrs C Tweedale being the speaker.
