Beverley Scan Highgate Dental Practice

Highgate Dental Practice in Wednesday Market, Beverley, has celebrated its 50th Birthday.

The practice was opened in January 1963 by Mr Andy Clarke who was joined by Mr John Kennedy shortly after.

On January 4, more than 50 past and present members of the dental team gathered at the practice to remember those years and renew old friendships. John Kennedy and Judy Percy one of the first dental nurses were present. Sadly Andy Clarke was too ill to attend. Mr Dave Davies gave a brief history of the Highgate fondly remembering many past members of the team and praising the present team for their dedication and enthusiasm. Also explaining the move from NHS to independent dentistry with dental care offered privately or through Denplan Dental Care.

Mr Steve Burke outlined the many changes in dentistry over the last 50 years the emphasis today being on prevention and minimal intervention dentistry with cosmetic rather than metal fillings. He explained how the training varies from new clinical techniques to management of internet social media.

But with all these changes the fundamental principles that Andy Clarke and John Kennedy established 50 years ago of “putting the patient first “ have not changed .

The evening concluded with two toasts. The first to Andy Clarke and John Kennedy and the second to all past and present associated with Highgate Dental Practice. A great evening was enjoyed by all.
