Mrs Edna McEwan

A funeral service was held at the East Riding Crematorium on Monday, February 4 for Mrs Edna McEwan of The Limes Residential Home (formerly of Driffield) who died in The Limes on January 23. She was aged 93 years.

The service was conducted by the Rev Malcolm Exley and the organist was Steven Westaway.

Edna was born and bred in Driffield. She met her husband Mac during the war and they got engaged. She waited for him for nearly five years while he served abroad with the RAF, when he returned they got married. They went on to have two wonderful sons Michael and Bill and they lived a full and happy life until Mac became ill and she nursed him devotedly through a long illness until he died 20 years ago.

She continued her caring by going to stay with her sister Joan in Cumbria to help to care for her husband Ted. After he died she decided to go and live with Joan permanently, although it was a big decision to leave her own home and family here in Yorkshire, she never regretted it. Her and Joan were very close sisters and they were company for each other and got on so well. She eventually came back to Driffield and even though it was a great wrench for her and Joan to be parted, she felt she had finally come back home.

She kept busy gardening and shopping and doing things for other people, if she could help anyone she would do so and never had a bad word to say about anyone.

Edna got very frustrated in the last couple of years when she wasn’t able to get about very easily and due to illness she had to go into the Limes last year where she was very well cared for.

Billy and Sue came over from New Zealand in November to celebrate her 93rd birthday which was wonderful for her to see them and spend time with them.

She is survived by her son Bill and daughter-in-law Sue, daughter-in-law Pauline, grandsons Rob, James and Russell and great grandchildren Harriet, Julia, Emma, Thomas, Matthew and Harry and she will be greatly missed by them all.
