DRIFFIELD residents looking into volunteering have been given a push in the right direction with a visit from a volunteering road show.

The public health bus rolled into town, bringing with it staff from the Volunteer Centre which runs as part of East Riding Voluntary Action Service and is funded by East Riding Council.

The road show, which visited 10 towns and colleges in a week, gave those who are looking into volunteering a chance to see what around 50 organisations have to offer.

The public health bus parked up in Tesco car park in Driffield and saw a steady stream of visitors pop in throughout the day.

Anne Watkins from The Volunteer Centre has hailed the road show a huge success and spoke about the benefits of volunteering in a climate with a very high unemployment rate.

Anne said: “The road show went brilliantly, we had a steady stream of people at Driffield who all took away information about volunteering and even had a few people sign up on the day.

“Volunteering is really a brilliant thing to do, I’ve seen a lot of people who have completely changed because of it - they have maybe been made redundant and have very little reason to get up in the morning but volunteering has given them a routine, something to focus on and ultimately could help them get back into work.”
