To celebrate the Driffield Support Group’s 25th Anniversary of supporting and raising funds for St Catherine’s Hospice, Scarborough, a programme of fundraising events has been arranged and The Honourable Simon Cunliffe-Lister of Burton Agnes Hall has kindly agreed to be the Anniversary Ambassador.

The Driffield Support Group was formed on November 26 1988 and two of the founder members, Gill Ullyott and Margaret Thompson are still active members of the committee.

Through the hard work of the support group over £132,000 has been raised over the years and the group want to mark their 25th Anniversary year by making a significant contribution to St Catherine’s.

A number of events are planned, of which the highlight will be the “Silver Ball” which will take place on Saturday March 9 2013 at The Members Pavilion, Driffield Showground.

This will be a fun event with tickets costing £45 each with tables of 10 available so please offer your support by getting together with friends or colleagues to have a really good night out.

Last year St Catherine’s Hospice helped over 2000 patients and their families but they receive less than 18% of their annual running costs from the Government which means they need to raise £4.5 million each year to keep the Hospice going. In addition to this the Hospice relies on the help of 700 volunteers.

Contrary to popular belief, The Hospice is not just for cancer patients, it also caters for people with Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Heart failure and late stage Parkinsons disease.

Another date for your diary is “An Evening of Puddings” featuring The Eatmore Pudding Club is to be held on Tuesday November 20 at the Masonic Lodge, Lockwood Street, Driffield. Tickets are £12 to include a glass of wine and a selection of puddings.

Tickets for both the ‘Silver Ball’ and ‘An Evening of Puddings’ are available from Gill Ullyott on 01377 256511 and Pauline Turner on 01377 270118 or from any committee member.
