CADETS, Brownies, Guides and Cubs were amongst a crowd of youngsters who gathered at a remembrance service on Sunday.

The youngsters joined civic dignitaries and Honorary Polish Consular Officers Professor Jo Carby-Hall and Diane Ryland at the Bridlington Road Cemetery for a children’s service organised by Driffield in Bloom.

Following the service children were given the opportunity to place a flower and poppy cross on one of the 111 war graves in the cemetery.

John Forrester, branch secretary of the Royal British Legion (RBL) commended the big turnout for the service.

John said: “It went very well, we had a very good turnout with a lot of children including a lot of the youth groups like the Guides, Scouts and Cadets.”

The Driffield Branch of the RBL will continue with their programme of events to mark Remembrance Day which falls on Sunday November 11. Events include street collections, a market stall on Driffield Market today (November 8), a Driffield Silver Band Concert at the Old Town Hall at The Bell Hotel on Saturday November 10 and two Remembrance Services on Sunday November 11 - one in the Gardens of Remembrance at 10.55am and one at All Saints Parish Church at 2.30pm.

Drififeld Times & Post photographer Mike Hopps went along to photograph the Children’s Service.
