A PIONEERING festival could soon put Driffield on the map in the arts world.
A group of arts enthusiasts are proposing to stage a weekend-long festival encompassing all of the arts.

The COW Arts Fest, which stands for Capital of the Wolds Arts Festival, could take place in Driffield in spring next year.

The newly formed Driffield Arts Festival Committee are currently canvassing opinion to find out if such an event would be viable.

The intention of the Driffield-based not-for-profit organisation is to organise a series of performances and workshops at a number of venues in and around Driffield.

Chair of the committee, 25-year-old James Amos, of King’s Mill Road, Driffield, said he wanted to put the spotlight on Driffield’s creative talent across the full spectrum of artistic disciplines.

“There are already a number of music festivals around, which is great, but we feel it would be nice to widen the choice and it’s about time Driffield and the surrounding area were put on the map arts-wise,” he said.

“We know there’s a lot of creative talent in this area and we’d like to celebrate this in a weekend-long arts festival.”

The aim of the festival would be to bring the arts and culture to the forefront of life in Driffield for those who already involved in some way and also to those who have never had the opportunity to join in before.

Mr Amos, who has been working alongside John Avery and several others, added: “We would like to bring the performance and visual arts to the forefront of the weekend giving local people the chance to see quality entertainment, take part in workshops and have a great time.”

The committee, which was formed by a group of professional and amateur artists and representatives from local arts groups, has gathered 160 responses from a market research questionnaire.

There is still time to fill in the questionnaire online at www.freewebs.com/cowfest or a copy can be collected from the offices of Driffield Town Council on Market walk, Driffield.

Anyone wishing to get involved with the organisation of the festival or for more information can contact James Amos on 07790 741134 or visit www.humancompasstheatre.co.uk.
