Police have condemned people who are believed to have fired ball bearings at a number of vehicles on a motorway near Wakefield.
West Yorkshire Police have received 11 separate reports since July 31 of vehicles being damaged by ball bearings between junctions 28 and 31 of the M62.

Two of those reports described men in a grey or blue Transit van firing ball bearings at vehicles on the motorway.

Inspector Joanne Field, of West Yorkshire Police's Motorway Unit, said: "Luckily no-one has been injured in any of these incidents but if people are firing ball bearings at cars on the M62, the potential for this type of stupidity to cause an incredibly serious collision on such a busy motorway is obvious.

"I would therefore like to appeal for anyone with any information on these incidents to call the police."

A police spokesman said in each case of damage reported, people had found ball bearings inside their vehicles.

He said: "The ball bearings are believed to be the cause of the damage and are believed to have been fired at the vehicles."

The spokesman said inquiries were ongoing into the incidents.
