It was with anger and disgust that I heard of the axing of East Yorkshire Motor Services route 135 serving Little Driffield, Garton, Wetwang, Fridaythorpe, Fimber and Sledmere.
We have had only two buses per week now for several years and this has been barely adequate, but to dispense with the service entirely is anathema.
Many of us who use the transport are older people who do not drive and have no other means of journ
eying into Driffield. How are we supposed to visit the doctor, collect prescriptions, go to the bank, shop for groceries etc?
The taxi fares are exhorbitant, £20 for a round trip, and even more should one live at Fridaythorpe or Fimber.
This is simply not viable, even once a week on a basic pension. It is difficult enough to make ends meet without the added worry of finding extra money.
I realise the cost of running the service has increased, but surely the outlying villages should be catered for.
We are virtually cut off - indeed Wetwang does not even have a shop. This also applies to several other villages.
The short notice given of the withdrawal of the service in six weeks time is deplorable and shows a total lack of concern for those dependent upon it. It also begs the question of why we were given free bus passes in April - they are useless to us.
Hopefully, this issue will be addressed with a little more compassion.
