Event: Rock N Roast
Venue: Rose And Crown, Driffield

Review: Roger Hayddon

A STORM of young talent hit Driffield on Sunday with a showcase of young bands playing Rock N Roast at the Rose and Crown.

After a long wait, Ruin got the bands off to a stunning start w
ith what is thought to be the first time that thrash-metal music has been performed live in the town.

The uninitiated were stunned, the initiated lapped it up joining in with some audience participation which set the standard for the day.

Another newcomer to the stage was End Of The Road with a creditable performance and a strong lead vocal. Veterans TMTFMD played with velocity and creativity my favourite track being My Ginger Iguana.

Next were the accomplished Ncoma with a fine set which included two of their own numbers - Prepare For War and Government Today.

Last but not least came Topside Beat with quality performances of indie style swing. The best performance of the day came with Ncoma’s second playing of their very own Threats, John ‘Fast Fingers’ Train performed magic on the bass, Rhys ‘Ginner’ Holland made the drums thunder in his own standing ovation, Mike Powell managed to stroke a borrowed guitar with such sweetness the crowd ended on their knees .

Landlady Gill Woolhead said: “We have heard a fantastic range of music and I look forward to seeing them again soon.”
