More gritting needed on roads

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council delays and annoys motorists with their so called traffic calming measures in the name of road safety yet seem intent in allowing accidents to happen by not salting/gritting main roads; namely the A166 from Driffield to Stamford Bridge on Saturday morning, December 6.
Drivers had to proceed at 25-30mph; even so a large van had overturned near Wetwang.

The road surface was black ice; possibly the worst conditions for driving with no sign of any salt or grit.

It is time the ERYC realised the cost effectiveness of salting/gritting and not so willingly pass the cost on to the hospitals and other authorities.

The ERYC may claim to be out in force (Driffield Post, December 5) but their efforts are both partial and inadequate. They also warn of localised flooding when the snow melts.

If the ERYC attended to roadside drains and gullies the roads would be far safer but these simple measures elude the council authorities.

However, one can rest assured that when the North Riding boundary is reached the road, even minor roads will have been fully treated.
