Stephen Isgate-Stone, manager of Woolworths in Driffield, writes ...
I am hoping you will be able to include this letter in the Driffield Post after my beloved Woolworths store in Driffield closed its doors for the final time and stopped trading.
I have worked for Woolworths for over 14 years, most of them at the D
riffield store, and the only regret I have is that I wasn't able to be with my team during their final working week as I will be on holiday, a trip that was planned early last year.
They are not just my work colleagues but also my friends and I feel bitterly disappointed and sad that Woolworths has gone, that our little family has been split up and they have lost their jobs through no fault of their own.
I hope you will agree with me that they have always given the best customer service in town, always smiling and doing their best to help everybody who comes into the store.
During the last few weeks, since we went into administration, it became apparent they were going to lose their jobs.
I know it must have been really awful for them.
However, they all still came to work and did their job in a very professional manner and have been a real credit, not only to Woolworths but to themselves and to me.
Thank you to all our loyal customers that we have served over the years, it's been a real pleasure.
We will all miss you and, to my team, thank you for being so good at what you do.
Finally, I wish them all good luck in finding new jobs and I’d like to say if there are any employers out there looking for staff you won't go far wrong if you employ any of the Driffield Woolies team.
