Thomas Scruton did his bit for the community

I have been passed old editions of your paper and I noticed the articles relating to Thomas Scruton (Dee and Atkinson had his truncheon for sale).
Thomas was my great, great, great grandad.
He was married to Ellen Riston, of Hutton Cranswick.
They had 12 children and the mill at Watton Census results for around that time show that many of the farms around Watton were owned and farmed by the Scruton family, whose roots are in Beverley.
Thomas had a son, Joseph, and Joseph's son, John (my great grandad), bought the Iron Foundry in Foxholes, known as Wilfred Scruton Ltd today.
