In August, some friends of ours came to Driffield from Edinburgh to attend the Tribfest concert. We did not go to the concert ourselves, except for the last hour or so to meet up with our friends as they had come such a long way.
The festival was obviously well attended and everyone appeared to be having a fantastic time. It was well organised, the bands were all excellent, the showground was a perfect venue and our friends, among others, were more than happy with their week
end.
While they were here, they bought food at Tesco, they bought a couple of sleeping bags at Yorkshire Trading, they bought meals at local chip shops and drink in the local pubs.
The bands all stayed in local hotels, B & Bs and pubs and spent lots of money in the town.
It was loud. It was supposed to be loud, it was a MUSIC festival.
It was, however, only for one weekend out of 52.
It did no harm whatsoever to the reputation of Driffield and East Yorkshire, it brought an eclectic mix of people into the town, it was GOOD.
The NIMBYs who are now complaining about the noise should think about how thousands of people spending their money in OUR shops and pubs and restaurants can possibly be a bad thing!
The Driffield Show is hugely successful and does much to show the farming community what a good place Driffield is, there is no reason whatsoever that Tribfest cannot do the same for the music community.
