TWO brothers are getting on their bikes for a 400-mile charity challenge, in memory of their late grandmother.
James Harper (30) and his brother Andrew (26), from Leven near Beverley, will attempt to cycle home from Leven in Scotland.
They are hoping to raise around £4,000 for the Dove House Hospice, to fulfil a promise made to their grandmother, Joyce Harper, who died from cancer.
The brothers will set off on July 11 to start their four day challenge. They will take the train up to Scotland with their mountain bikes, setting off on the 400-mile return journey with the aim of completing 100 miles a day.
James, who lives at South Promenade, Leven, said that Dove House was a cause close to their grandmother's heart.
“She was very positive about the work they did, and wanted money to be donated to Dove House, so we said we would do something,” he explained.
“We are both cyclists and we wanted to do a charity bike ride.
“We thought about the traditional rides such as the coast to coast but we wanted to do something different.
“On a recent trip to Scotland I noticed there is another place called Leven and I thought it would be quite fun to cycle from there to our own Leven.
“We wanted to do something which was a challenge as there is no point in asking people to give money for something which is an easy task.
“The first 100 miles will be tough, but the real challenge will be getting up the next day and the next two days and doing the same thing again.”
