The equipment is 11 pieces of Outdoor Fitness Range by Record RSS Ltd, one of the leading manufacturers of quality playground and sports equipment. The site at Leven is the first of its kind in the Yorkshire region.

The facilities are suitable for all age groups from teenagers to grandparents.

Councillor Jane Evison, the council's portfoliholder for leisure, said: "The new equipment is a wonderful asset for Leven and will help encourage healthy activity, improve fitness and tackle obesity, as well as providing another social opportunity for the village."

The scheme is a partnership between Leven Playing Fields Association and the council. The Leven PFA, which this year is celebrating 50 years in its current format, aims to provide social and recreational facilities for the village and surrounding area.

The council was able to secure funding for the scheme from external grant sources, together with money from a housing developer provided as part of a planning agreement.
