AFTER keeping relatively clear of rain this season, it was the weather that won last weekend in the Independent League.
Only two of Saturday’s matches were played to a conclusion, both of these being in Division Three.

In Division One Old Hymerians salvaged a batting bonus point against Brandesburton. Geoff Kean and Rob Lowe were the on-form batsmen, each collecting an unbeaten half-century. Meanwhile, Newport managed 127 for 2 and two batting points before the heavens opened at Rudston.

In Division Two, Driffield grabbed a bowling point with four wickets against Dalton Holme (see club round-up).

Division Three fared much better with two competitive matches played. Lee Barwick hit 69 for Leven 2nds in their score of 199 all out but Hornsea put up a serious challenge before ending on 172 for 9.

In the other completed match, Hutton Cranswick scored a useful 160 for 8 at Hessle, but this was surpassed for the loss of 8 wickets, thanks mainly to M Fyvie who completed a half century.

As a result Leven move up to second position and Hessle go third.

In a match played on Sunday, Flamborough did themselves a power of good by beating Hull Zingari.
