A £2 million pound re-development of three of Driffield's historic hangars has been unveiled for the first time this week.
The new factories for Caledonian Building Systems and local company Modular UK, who were bought by Caledonian earlier this year, were officially opened yesterday (Thursday September 4)
Around a hundred new jobs are expected to be created at the site when full production gets underway on the site in the coming months.
Speaking ahead of the opening, Caledonian's business development director Ian Kemp told the Driffield Post the new site would be a significant boost for their operations.
He explained that the buildings and the area were ideally suited to them.
"East Yorkshire is the home of the industry. There is a lot of labour in the supply chain."
He added that the firm would not have been able to build a similar facility.
Senior executives of Caledonian's American based parent company Champion, including their managing director Bill Griffiths, were due to attend the opening ceremony, which took place as the Driffield Post went to press.
The event also marked the latest phase of the development, which was first reported in our sister newspaper, the Driffield Times, in March.
Mr Kemp said Caledonian had reached full capacity at their existing site at Newark and that the move into Driffield would allow them to increase production by up to a quarter.
The new factories are expected to provide an extra 150,000 square feet of manufacturing space.
As well as around a hundred permanent positions, it is expected that between 50 and 60 other jobs could be created when required, plus offering new opportunities for other local firms and suppliers.
Caledonian managing director, Dave Turnbull, said: "The opening of the factory is an exciting step for Caledonian as the business continues to grow.
"We look forward to the increase of production in the facility as it becomes fully functioning, and to Caledonian becoming a part of the Driffield community."
