BUDDING bookworms from schools across the Wolds have been getting into character to mark World Book Day.
Pupils of all ages from Driffield Northfield Infant School, Driffield CE Infant School, Brandesburton Primary School, Beeford CE Primary School and Wetwang CE Primary School are pictured dressed up as an assortment of storybook characters helping to bring their favourite tales alive.

Cruella De Ville from 101 Dalmations, Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, Pocahontas, Alice in Wonderland, Spiderman, Superman and Thomas the Tank Engine were just some of the colourful characters who put in an appearance on the day.

Literacy co-ordinator at Wetwang CE Primary School, Sue Allan, who spent the day dressed as Puss in Boots, said: "We encourage the children to read as much as possible and we try to encourage the idea that reading is fun and enjoyable."

Every teacher at Wetwang CE Primary school took in a book to read to each class while pupils had a go at designing their own book tokens to be in with the chance of winning £250 worth of book vouchers as part of a national competition.

Elsewhere, there were plenty of fun activities on offer to help pupils discover the world of books.
