RESIDENTS worried that Driffield's Tidy Team were an untidy lot have had their fears allayed.
Philip and Peter Ireland, of Woldholme Avenue, were horrified with the state in which the Tidy Team left a grass verge near their house.

But it turned out the team had been unable to finish the job on their shift and returned the following day to tidy up the path, which runs between Woldholme Avenue and St Margaret's Close.

The father and son were concerned when on Tuesday afternoon the Tidy Team downed tools, leaving grass cuttings strewn across the pavement and bare soil where grass has been growing.

Peter said: "A child with a pair of scissors could have done a better job. It looks a mess. It's a disgrace."

They said they were concerned the maintenance of the grass is neglected for too long so the job is unmanageable and that the situation at the nearby play park is the same.

Peter went on: "It's a regular occurrence that they leave the grass that long and never bother sweeping up. They leave it that long so the grass is a foot high. I work in Hull and I have never see anything like this there."

Clerk to Driffield Town Council, Claire Binnington, said the Tidy Team had been unable to finish the job without incurring overtime on Tuesday so they returned on Wednesday.

She said patches of bare earth had emerged because it had been necessary to put down weed killer but these would be replanted with grass seed.
