A DRIFFIELD public house could become an entertainment hub after being granted a late licence.

The Full Measure, on Mill Street, will now be able to compete with other town centre watering holes already serving drinks passed midnight, after being granted permission to extend its hours.

Under the terms of the licence, the pub, which usuall
y closes at 12pm, can remain open between 11am and 3.30am daily and serve alcohol from 11am to 2am.

Landlord, James Kitching, has said he only intends to use the late-night drinking permit on weekends or on special occasions, such as Driffield Show day, and anticipates the pub will close at around 1am.

Before the licence can come into effect, Mr Kitching must hire doormen to work weekends, or when such special events are taking place in town, and CCTV must be installed throughout the premises.

Barman, Tom Lunn, told the Driffield Times: "It cannot come into effect until we have hired doormen for the weekends and we have put in the CCTV.

"We are on with it at the moment but I don't know how long it will be before we can start staying open until the early hours."

Mr Kitching has also been given permission for live music, recorded music and dancing on the premises.
