DRIFFIELD Showground was rocking to the sounds of Madness, Thin Lizzy and The Scissor Sisters over the weekend as thousands of people gathered for Europe's biggest tribute festival.

Some of the country's top tribute bands took to the main stage at this year's Tribfest which pulled in three thousand festival-goers over three days.

Festival organiser, Eddy Faulkner, who opened the festival with his band, The Beautiful Couch, said he was pleased with how the weekend went despite some wet weather.

Mr Faulkner said: "We had had some bad weather and I think that affected the last minute attendance. We had some rain on the Friday and on the Sunday but it was over by 10am and the sun came out.

"It was fantastic and everybody was coming up to me on Sunday evening telling me so, which was quite emotional because you spend a year planning and putting it together," he added.

After touring the world for more than 15 years with his band Limehouse Lizzy, Wayne Ellis said he had never seen a festival quite like it.

Mr Ellis, who was on lead vocals and bass guitar as alter ego Phil Lynott, of Thin Lizzy fame, said: "We have been around the world and in our travels there is nothing really like this, in fact a lot of the big rock festivals have started with the tribute genre but I have not seen anything else like it."

Tickets for Tribfest 2009 are on sale this week at a special early bird price and for further information visit www.tribfest.co.uk
