Carl was sadly diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis two years ago aged just 24.
Ian from Durham is currently training hard to take part in the Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon on 23 May 2010 and with every pace (of which there will be a lot in 26.2
.miles!) he will be raising vital funds for the charity to help people like his son Carl get the best from life.
Sue Ryder Care provides health and social care for people with life-limiting and long-term conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington's disease, Brain Injury, Stroke and Cancer. Each year we provide 4 million hours or care and need to raise £74 million to fund our work. Holme Hall provides long-term residential and respite care for up to 36 adults from the age of 18 and above.
Ian says 'Carl has been very well looked after at Holme Hall, he enjoys taking part in all the activities they have going on there'. Recreational therapy is an important part of the care provided by Sue Ryder Care. This enables residents to enjoy day trips out and activities such as art workshops, singers and even Wii sports giving them chance to get back their confidence and independence.
Could you follow in Ian's footsteps and run for Sue Ryder Care?
Sue Ryder are currently appealing for anyone with their own place in the Virgin London Marathon 2010 or anyone interested in taking part in the Great North Run or the ING New York Marathon 2010. Whatever your distance they have a run to suit you. In return they will look after you from sign-up to beyond that finishing line with all the training and fundraising advice you need.
Get fit, feel fantastic and support Sue Ryder Care all at the same time!
