JAZZ musicians hit the right note at Burton Agnes Hall over the weekend as the annual jazz festival pulled in the crowds despite the wet weather.
Jazz enthusiasts young and old gathered in the grounds of the Elizabethan stately home to watch performances by top class musicians from across the UK and the United States.

The event which started on Friday evening and finished Sunday evening was organised by the owner of the house Simon Cunliffe-Lister, himself a keen musician.

Mr Cunliffe-Lister said: “I play the saxophone and piano so I have been into jazz since I was little. The setting at Burton Agnes Hall really lends itself to something like this. We have undercover seating for 250 people so the show goes on despite the weather.”

“We get approached by quite a few bands for the festival and we have a few local regulars who we like to support each year, we like to keep the local crowds going as well as bands from outside. Everyone has a great time and the musicians really enjoy it,” he added.

Performing at the festival for the first time was Olive Joseph, of the Jenny Bray Band who had made the journey from New York for the performance.

“Even though the weather is wet this is fantastic, I love it here. We just came back from Scarborough and that was a lot of fun and we have been spending some time in Nafferton.”

Olive first met Jenny Bray, of Nafferton at an audition in New York a decade ago and the couple have been friends ever since.

Olive said: “I found Jenny at an audition for someone to do vocals for her and it was an unusual project I remember that and when she opened the door we just clicked and have been best friends ever since.”

This was Olive and her husband Michael’s second visit to Driffield and they are already planning a return visit in time for next year’s festival.
