A LECONFIELD man was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a disturbance in Beverley.

Police are appealing for information about the assault, which took place in the early hours of Friday May 9.

Officers were called to a disturbance in the Saturday Market area, where they found a group of people fighting.

Ambulance staff were called to the scene and a 24-year-old Leconfield man was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment.

DC James Woodmansey, investigating officer, said: "This is a serious assault which has left a 24-year-old man in hospital with serious injuries. The fight involved a number of people and it would have been obvious to anyone passing by what was going on.

"We receive numerous anonymous calls and I would like to especially like to speak to anyone who called the police to report this incident."

Police described the condition of the man who was assaulted as serious but not life threatening.

Anyone with information is asked to ring Humberside Police on 0845 6060222, quoting log number 13 of May 9, or ring Crimestoppers anonymously, tel 0800 555111.
