A PRIMARY school teacher from Driffield will be exercising her lungs as well as her legs to raise money for charity.
Kerry Garner, 31, of Riverhead, will be taking part in the London Marathon but has also organised a karaoke evening to boost the funds she will donate to a cerebral palsy charity. She has chosen to support Scope, and hopes to raise at least £1,500, because her godson, Thomas, suffers from the condition.
Her training schedule was recently stepped up when she completed her first 20-mile run last week but she admits to being slightly daunted by the 26-mile route through the streets of London.
She said: “I am not really nervous at the moment, I am quite excited. I have done half marathons before, but I am a bit daunted because I have not entirely sure of what to expect in London.
“But people keep telling me it’s the one day in your life that you will have hundreds of people calling your name so it’s very motivating.”
Kerry, who works at a school in Hull, will hold the karaoke and disco at the Bell Hotel, Driffield, on Saturday March 29 from 8pm.
Tickets are priced at £4 and there will be refreshments. For more details contact Kerry, tel (01377) 257362.
