WITH more than 200 entries of Classic cars and motorcycles, the Classic Wings & Wheels Show is gearing up to provide a fantastic Fathers Day treat that all the family can enjoy.
In addition to the spectacle of the vehicles on display amongst the historic aircraft collection, there is also a Homes & Lifestyle Show, which is running over the whole weekend, with plenty of interesting stalls to browse around and get some inspir
ation for your home and leisure time.

From kids fashion clothing to holiday homes, there will be something of interest for everyone.

There is also the expected flypast by a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight to thrill the crowds with the evocative sight and sound that this famous aircraft presents.

Another British icon on display will be an Aston Martin DB5, presented courtesy of David Black, of Blacks Furniture Hire, who happens to be President of the James Bond Fan Club, recalling the role of this classic marque in several of the James Bond epics.

An Air Museum spokesman said: "We are also very pleased to welcome Mike Newman, from Cheshire, who is the current world solo blind land speed record holder, an achievement he made at Elvington Airfield in 2005, setting a speed of 178.5mph over the measured mile in a specially de-restricted BMW M5.

"This smashed his previous record of just over 144 mph in a Jaguar XK8. Mike is currently in preparation for another world record attempt to take place at Bonneville, Utah, USA in September. For this, he will be driving a special Keating TKR supercar, which is capable of speeds well in excess of 200 mph and in recent tests at Elvington, Mike was achieving around 130 mph on what was a very wet day!

Mike has been blind since he was a young boy and his record attempts have assisted the Guide Dogs for the Blind Charity, and the new record attempt will raise funds for the new Guide Dogs for the Blind centre at Atherton, Bolton.

The new car is designed by Antony Keating in Manchester and we are hoping that it will be on display at the show in its brand new livery for the record attempt, along with one of Mike's other record breaking cars. (This specialist paint work is due for completion this week)

Other characters attending are Matthew Mackaness and Charlie Marlowe who are embarking on the Atlantic Row 09 in December, in a challenge to break the record of 35 days to row between the Canary Islands to Antigua in the West Indies in support of Brain Tumour UK, with the aim of raising in excess of £50 000 for this worthy cause.

Museum spokesman, Ian Richardson, said: "With a host of fantastic vehicles, historic aircraft, fascinating museum exhibits and some interesting stalls to whet the appetites of shoppers, the Classic Wings & Wheel Show offers a super family outing. We are also delighted by the attendance of some real characters who are testing themselves to the limit for really worthy causes and this provides a great opportunity for the public to find out more and show their support."

The Homes & Lifestyle Show will run on Saturday and Sunday 20th / 21st June and the Classic Wings & Wheels Show with the classic cars and Spitfire flypast is on the Sunday. Admission is: £7 Adults, £5 Senior Citizens and £3 Children.
