New programme launched to tackle organised crime in Bridlington head-on and regenerate community

Humberside Police say the programme Clear, Hold, Build will see officers:

– “relentlessly pursue” organised crime members using all available powers and tactics to clear Bridlington

- continue activity to hold the location, so other gangs can’t take control in the vacuum

- and work with residents and partners to make the community a safer place to live, work and visit

Officers from the force’s serious and organised crime unit, alongside the neighbourhood policing team and partnering agencies, have been clearing the ground in a bid to disrupt people involved in organised crime in the community.

So far, the team have arrested a total of 63 people, with 34 of those charged in connection with drugs-related offences, with more work ongoing.

Through collaboration with the Police and Crime Commissioner, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and a host of other statutory and voluntary agencies, the team will work closely with those in the community carrying out planned activities while offering advice and services to those who need it.

Long-term plans include identifying hotspot areas and rolling out a variety of regeneration projects including recreational environments, as well as providing opportunities and support with employment funding, security, funding, and crime prevention.

Community Policing Inspector Andy Beadman said: “While positive progress has already been made, I’m positive the collaborative work we, alongside our partners and the community will contribute to make the Bridlington area a vibrant place to live, work and enjoy.

“Tackling organised crime within the force remains a priority for us as it has a big impact on local communities, anti-social and disruptive behaviour often follows drug use and dealing.

“The community impact this type of offending is the reason we will continue to do everything we can to disrupt these criminal networks, removing them, and the drugs they supply and distribute, from our streets.”
