In handing over the chain of office to Anne Pickering, Alan Hardy looked back on a very successful year as president of Driffield Rotary Club.

With the much valued support of Driffield people, hardworking members of the club had raised £18,000 for charitable purposes - £15,000 of which had been donated to worthwhile causes, leaving a balance to be drawn on for local, national or international emergencies.

Incoming president Anne has set the target for £20,000 for the year ahead and looks forward to seeing the club give a sympathetic ear to any person or group in need of assistance.

Her charity of the year is the Daisy Appeal, which carries out research into dementia, cardiac disease and cancer at its base at Castle Hill Hospital.

Currently, it is raising funds for a second cyclotron scanner to be installed at Castle Hill in 2015, speeding up diagnosis of cancer and cardiac conditions for the people of Driffield and surrounding areas.

Anyone wishing to make a donation or organise a fund raising activity is asked to ‘phone Anne on 01377 236659, a number which may also be used for requests for financial or practical assistance.

* The Daisy Appeal is funded by local people and it saves local lives. The Daisy Appeal was established on one fundamental truth – the key to beating these conditions lies in early diagnosis. Quite simply, the sooner they are diagnosed the better the chances.
