Driffield Slimming World groups held their ‘Greatest Loser’ competition - the four group winners shedding an amazing 23 stone between them.
The Thursday group winner, was Brendan O’Donnell.
When he joined the group his size was affecting every aspect of his daily life.
Now Brendan, 31, is 8st 6lbs lighter - having lost the weight in just 27 weeks.
Not only has he won the best prize of all – a fitter, healthier, happier future altogether – he’s also won the group’s Greatest Loser 2014 award for the member who’s lost the most weight.
Brendan said: “I feel like a new person since losing weight – in fact, I look so different that people I haven’t seen for a while say they don’t recognise me.
“I feel happier and healthier, I’ve got more energy and regularly run 5k, something I never thought I would ever be able to do.”
Monday’s 5.30pm session winner was Janette Adcock, whose weight was putting a huge strain on her health.
Janette has lost seven stone 7lb.
She said: “Walking through those doors was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, I was embarrassed and nervous. But I needn’t have worried because everyone there was so very friendly and welcoming. When you have a lot of weight to lose there are many hurdles to overcome to change old ways and adopt new healthy habits that you can sustain for the rest of your life. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my Consultant and the rest of the group.”
Driffield Morning group winner Rebecca Elliker Reeve has lost four stone 10lb.
She said: “Every week the group were there with a new recipe or shopping tip and if I was struggling someone always seemed to have the perfect piece of advice.”
Karen Grundy from the Monday 7.30 session has lost two stone 3½lb.
She said: “The group support really helped me-nobody judges you, as they understand what it’s like to have a weight problem. I still can’t believe I’ve lost this weight eating tasty, filling meals and still enjoying my favourite treats.”
Each of Slimming World’s 11,000 groups in the UK and Ireland has their own ‘Greatest Loser 2014’ and winners will go forward to the national competition. Matthew Briggs from York lost an amazing 17½ stone to take the title in 2012.
