More than 100 members and guests gathered at the Driffield rugby club for the 25th annual dinner of the East Riding Engine Club on Saturday 22 March - and they are looking forward to the 25th Driffield Steam and Vintage Rally to be held 9 and 10 August.
The chairman, Harold Bell welcomed everyone, and gave a short resume of the clubs history, He said plans for the 2014 Steam Rally were well in hand.
A 25th anniversary cake was cut by the club president Mike Middlewood, one of the original instigators of the club when it was formed in the autumn of 1989 at a gathering of vintage enthusiasts in Foston Village Hall.
It was from this meeting that plans to put on the original Driffield Steam & Vintage Rally in August 1990 were put in place. This year will be the silver jubilee, with various special attractions planned in the already busy weekend. A number of the original steam engines, tractors, cars and other exhibits will be attending, some of which have been every year.
The parade of vehicles in to Driffield on the Saturday evening will once again be one of the highlights that the organisers and exhibitors really look forward to, and following on later that evening a large firework display is planned.
The enclosed photo shows the club president Mike Middlewood cutting the cake and the members of the Engine Club executive committee, Jasmine Stocker, Audrey & Rod Smith, Harold Bell and Barry Ewbank.
