Emergency teams called out as man falls 15m down riverbank in Goathland, near Whitby

A host of emergency services including an air ambulance were called to the Yorkshire Coast yesterday after a man fell 15 metres down a riverbank.

Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team who were called to help at 1.35pm, said the man had suffered a head injury and was unconscious in the stream at New Wath Scar in Goathland.

After being treated by paramedics, the man was put onto a stretcher and the rescue team's volunteers were helped by firefighters to lift him from the water and upstream to a waiting air ambulance.

The mountain rescue team posted on social media: "Our thoughts are with the gentleman and his family."
