A special event was held in Beverley on Saturday to relaunch the town’s popular and vibrant Saturday Market.

The area was bustling with music, cookery demonstrations, and fun for all the family - in addition to all the usual Saturday Market stalls.

The National Market Traders Federation hosted a ‘Making Markets Matter’ event featuring competitions, face painting, free giveaways and games. And Michael Wood, East Riding of Yorkshire Town Crier and current British champion, read a Market Proclamation at the Market Cross, which was followed by a welcome to the event by the chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Beverley Brass Band also performed and there was a cookery demonstrations by James Mackenzie, chef and owner of the Michelin-starred Pipe and Glass Inn at South Dalton.

Winners of the recent East Riding Bake Off competition also demonstrated their winning recipes using food left over food.

Chef Thierry Condette from TC Patisserie in the town – who regularly have a stall on the Market – gave a cookery demonstration at 2pm.
