The dream of a new events centre at the Driffield showground is to become a reality, after it was revealed that £280,000 had been raised to fund the the firest phase of the ambitious scheme.
Wednesday was a day of celebration as the good news broke during the 139th Driffield Show.
The Driffield Agricultural Society also announced that as well as raising enough funds for events centre they have also received full planning permission for the scheme to ho ahead.
Building work for the newly christened Rix Pavilion will start in mid August and will be available to hire from February 2015.
Plans and artists impressions of the Rix Pavilion were on display at the Show.
Once complete the bulding will accommodate up to 350 guests in the main hall and will have its own catering facilities and reception area, making it an ideal venue for bespoke weddings, seminars and private functions.
Show director David Tite said: “This really is an exciting time for the Driffield Agricultural Society.
“We have talked about our new events centre for a number of years now and it is fantastic to see it becoming a reality in the form of the Rix Pavilion”.
“However, the fundraising continues for the improvement project at the Driffield Showground.”
He said: “Although funds have now been raised for the actual events centre, efforts are now targeted at raising the funds for phase two of the project - the creation of a new toilet and shower block.”
Mr Tite said: “With money still to raise, we are working hard to gain the remaining funding required to complete this ambitious and exciting project, with the new facilities complete the Showground will be able to offer contemporary facilities suitable for attracting new events to the region’.”
