Langtoft Art Group brings village folk together
AT a time when rural areas seem to be losing their amenities, one Driffield village is trying to soften the blow.
The formation of Langtoft Art Group last week has proved an instant hit with villagers who flocked to the first meeting.
Artists of any age and ability can join the group to make new friends and get hints and tips from the professionals.
Next week members are to be given a helping hand by well-known Langtoft artist, John Naylor, who specialises in painting wildlife.
Group founder, Anne Hague, explained her inspiration for the group: "There is not a lot to do in the village; we have lost the post office, the shop and a bus service so I got the idea to start a group for everybody to come to without having to use a car. They can get together and it has proved quite popular."
Sixteen people, aged from early 20s upwards, attended the first meeting on Tuesday. They brought their own arts materials which they may then share with one another to try out new techniques.
Anne said the skill range is varied, but the emphasis is on getting to know people in the village while taking part in a shared interest.
"I have lived here for seven years and on Tuesday I met people from Langtoft I have not met before," she said.
"We are all using various mediums, but none of us are perfect. We are all helping each other."
The group meet every Tuesday morning from 10am at the Bowls Club Pavilion. Each member has paid 10 subs which will rent the premises for 15 weeks.
