‘Woman needs to get a grip’ - YOUR LETTERS

I write in regard to the article from Mrs Deighton Haywood about the apparent danger of the outside equipment at Driffield Infant School and, in particular, the use by the children of ‘concrete blocks’

In short, the woman needs to get a grip.

I have three girls myself, two of whom have already been through the Infant school and my youngest, Charlotte who is currently at the school now.

All three of them have enjoyed every moment of being at the school and Charlotte loves going to school, which is something I’m sure not every parent can say about their child.

The school itself is excellent, the facilities are good and the teachers are exemplary. The arrival of Mrs Thackray has been a good move for the children, also, and she has brought some fresh new ideas with her, which can only be a good thing.

The children now line up in the morning when Mrs Thackray rings the bell which they enjoy and it also gives them a sense of discipline.

The arrival of the new play items is a good move too. Children love to play and learn by manipulating the world around them, so by using the offending objects they get a real hands on sense of what they can achieve with their own imagination.

I must also mention that these play sessions are supervised and are as safe as can be surely? I know we all love our kids and want to keep them safe from harm, but at what point do you draw the line?

I, for one, applaud the school for its forward-thinking approach to a youngster’s learning environment.

As the wife of a PCSO I would be more curious as to why Mrs Deighton-Haywood removed school property from the premises without consent, and if she plans to return the items as she is depriving the children of their play equipment...and as for Mr Deighton-Haywood’s comment about how ‘You wouldn’t let them play with knives’, well, as far as I know, nobody has ever been stabbed with a concrete block.
