East Yorkshire coach holiday firm Acklams Coaches is on track to set new records of miles travelled and people carried this year.

As the Beverley-based company launches its Autumn and Winter brochure, it has announced that bookings in the first quarter of the year are well ahead of last year’s figures and some holidays for later in the year have already been sold out.

Director Alan Acklam said: “We’re not getting carried away just yet but the first three months of the year have put us on course for a strong performance throughout 2014. We have invested heavily in new vehicles over the past 24 months and we’ve introduced a much wider range of holiday destinations.

“Our Autumn and Winter brochure contains no fewer than 26 holidays, ranging from two to 10 days including Christmas markets, New Year specials, pamper and shopping weekends and even an Austrian Winter Wonderland trip and is now available through our head office (01482 887666) or from our office on Ferensway in Hull.

“It’s still early days but we are confident of hitting our target for this year of 1,200 holidaymakers, doubling the figure set in 2013. It’s also likely that we will smash our record for the number of miles travelled in a year, currently standing at 850,000. Current booking figures suggest this will exceed 1.1m this year”.

He added: “Looking at the wider picture, the UK coach holiday is more popular than ever and is a fast-growing market. We’ve put together a very comprehensive schedule that offers a huge range of destinations, including stately homes, gardens, historic towns and coast resorts, and people can choose to go away for two, three, four or five days, or even for a longer break. It’s that flexibility and range of choice that appeals to our customers.

“Acklams free door-to-door service is also immensely popular and gets the holiday off to a terrific, hassle-free start”.

Acklams Coaches recently invested a further £400,000 in two state-of-the-art vehicles, a luxury coach and a double decker, bringing the total spend on new vehicles in the past couple of years to £1.1m.
