Staff from Perfect 32 Dental Practice in Beverley brought National Smile Month to Driffield, by holding a fun, oral health workshop at Bishop Burton College’s Riverhead Centre to back the UK’s biggest oral health campaign.

Taking place from 19 May to 19 June, National Smile Month aims to promote and raise awareness of good oral health, and Perfect 32 is getting involved to do just that.

To show their support, staff from Perfect 32 held a fun, oral health workshop at The Riverhead Centre on 3rd June from 1-3pm that aimed to put the smile into National Smile Month. The students took part in an interactive workshop that included a Power Point presentation, brushing instruction and lots of fun and games. The students all received their very own goody bag and got their picture taken with a Smiley – the campaign icon.

Nicki Rowland, Practice Manager from Perfect 32 said: “We love taking part in National Smile Month. It is a wonderful campaign that gives us an opportunity to educate the public about good oral health in an entertaining and fun way. The students not only learned about the importance of good oral health for a healthy smile but also the impact poor oral health can have on your heart and the rest of your body.”

Dental nurses, Bethany Mulchinock and Katie Wilkin, talked to students about the campaign’s 3 key messages which are:-

Brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste

Cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks

Visit your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend.

Alex Leary, a student at The Riverhead Centre said “I have learned how to brush my teeth properly and will be definitely brushing for 2 minutes both morning and night now. I don’t want to lose my teeth because I am not looking after them properly”.

Chief Executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, Dr Nigel Carter OBE said: “I’m delighted that Perfect 32 has joined the National Smile Month campaign. It is a great reflection of local community spirit and an excellent way to promote good oral health.
