The long established Driffield travel agency Ashley Adams will be 45 years old on June 26.

The company began life in Filey when it was launched by Mr John Awran and managed by Mr Peter Riley

Mr Riley established the firm’s first footing in Driffield in 1971. Back then, the office was connected to what was Jackson’s Supermarket, which now is Iceland.

The company later moved to Middle Street South and became specialist in travel to Africa - and once took more than 200 Driffield people on holiday togeter.

That part of the company was sold off in 1984 to become Ashley Adams Trading as Southern Africa Travel, and the remainder continued to trade as Ashley Adams (Yorkshire) Ltd which, to this day, remains in the Riley family, with Steve Riley at the head since Peter retired.

In the early days people would advertise in the Yellow Pages and Peter Riley came up with the name Ashley Adams as it appeared first in the listings.

Steve has grown up with the business and has seen many changes, including when it became the first agency in Yorkshire to use computers and the internet, and from issuing paper train tickets to magnetic strip tickets, and from issuing paper airline tickets to what is now most commonly electronic tickets.

Today, Ashley Adams still serves mandy Driffield people with all their travel needs and the firm also has many overseas clients - from the USA, Australia and South Africa. In 2012 the firm came first out of 800 independently owned agents from all over UK and Ireland to win the accolade of “River Cruise Specialist”.

Steve Riley said: “This is only a small part of what we do. People may be aware that Ashley Adams has supported in the past and will continue to support local clubs and charity events and the odd fund raiser, from having heads shaved to legs waxed.”

Steve would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all Ashley Adams customers past and present for their support, because without them we would not be here. That is why Steve has introduced a customer loyalty plan called “Holiday Reward” where the client earns points on money spent and can redemed them against other holidays etc.
