Beverley MP Graham Stuart and a delegation of MPs, councillors and business leaders from the East Riding of Yorkshire met with the Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin, to push for electrification of the railway line between Selby and Hull.
The proposal is being led by First Hull Trains, and has a goal of completion by 2017, the year when Hull will be the City of Culture.
Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart, said: “I wholeheartedly endorse the plan to electrify the rail line between Selby and Hull. The East Riding of Yorkshire needs a 21st Century Rail Network that provides top-quality links to other parts of the country.
Most travellers from Beverley and Holderness are required to travel through Hull to reach other regions via rail, meaning that this modernisation scheme has not only great benefits for Hull, but the entire East Riding. First Hull Trains has worked hard to develop an innovative package to forward, fund and deliver an electrified rail link. This will help attract investment and enhance economic growth in our area, and it has cross party support from MPs, Councillors, business leaders and the general public.”
