THE Chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council gave dogs and cats at a local RSPCA centre a Christmas treat.

Coun Chad Chadwick visited the RSPCA cattery and kennel in Nafferton last week to present them with a large collection of pet food and treats.

The haul was donated mainly by the staff at the council, with boxes of food completely filling the car boot and back seats of the car it was brought in.

Kay Harrison of the Bridlington and Driffield branch of the RSPCA said: “The local RSPCA has got over 90 animals spending the festive season in their care and the food and treats and will be really big help to us at this time.

“We are so grateful to Councillor Chadwick, his staff and everyone who kindly donated the treats for the animals in our care.

“Councillor Chadwick made friends with all he cats when he gave them all some treats during his visit.”

Rosie (the cat in the photo) is one of 57 cats and kittens in RSPCA care this Christmas, who will be looking for a new home when they re-open for adoptions on January 2.

Coun Chadwick said: “I was delighted to be able to bring the treats along, the RSPCA is one of my charities for the year and they do an incredible amount of good work. I would like to thank council staff who collected all the treats for me to bring along.

“The cattery is a great facility, it’s difficult to go there and not have the urge to adopt another pet!”
