Driffield Town Team is inviting local businesses, and particularly high street traders, to share ideas about using the world wide web.
A meeting has been set up for next Tuesday 13 May at 5.30pm, and will be held at Hotel 41, which has sponsored the event by offering use of the venue.
Town Team members visited businesses on Saturday afternoon to deliver flyers, to invite businesses to go along to find out more. Janet Whipps, Chair of Driffield Town Team said: “The response was mainly positive, so we are hoping people come along on the 13 May to find out more, and bring their own ideas along too. This could be a very exciting project, and we want to use the momentum that the Saturday Markets are giving the town to move onto the next opportunity to work together. This could really put Driffield on the “online” map, and build more local support for our excellent range of local traders.”
The idea is being developed by the Driffield Town Team, as part of the Driffield Renaissance Partnership. The Town Team was the group that worked with Driffield Town Council last year to run the Sensational Saturday Maker Markets, which have gone from strength to strength, and will be a regular fixture this year, on the third Saturday of each month between April and September.
The “driffieldhighstreet.com” idea aims to look at ways of helping local traders come together with an on-line presence, which may include selling on-line, but could also be about letting people know what a range of shops are available in their own town, offering promotions and special offers, and aiming to keep shopping local.
There would also be opportunity for links to other websites, particularly where some of the local retailers are already trading online.
Driffield Renaissance Partnership aims to develop projects to improve the town, organise special events, and is supported by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Driffield Town Council. The meeting starts at 5.30pm.
