The annual Bonfire and Firework Display organised by the Driffield Town Council went ahead of Saturday, despite the cold and blustery weather. A spectacular display was delivered by the Town Council Tidy Team, Andy Wilson and Chris Brotherton, who this year had also used automatic firing equipment for the bigger fireworks.
The Town Council had also had to make additional traffic management arrangements this year and hired traffic lights to manage the exit from the event. The Town Clerk, Claire Binnington, said ‘We think the traffic lights worked well, although I did receive a comment that hold ups were caused by some impatient drivers, which will always happen’.
The fireworks are purchased from local firm, The Fireworkers, who once again ensured that the display was even better than last year, with bigger and more spectacular fireworks. Volunteers from the Driffield Rotary, Driffield Lions and the Driffield Para Cadets also attended to assist with the car parking and crowd management, while town councillors manned the payment booths. The local police were also out in force, which is always reassuring, and the Driffield Fire Brigade also came in the fire engine.
The Mayor, Coun Heather Venter said: ‘We would like to thank Andy and Chris of the Tidy Team for another brilliant display, they work so hard to ensure an even more spectacular display each year. Also a big thank you to the volunteers who come every year, without them , we would not be able to stage the event. Revellers at Kilham also enjoyed a spectacular bonfire display at the weekend.
