Concerns over grass verges
RENEWED concern has been voiced over the state of grass verges in Nafferton, with the condition of some being described as "horrible".
County council officials will once again be asked to look at the problem after residents and parish councillors repeated calls for more to be done on the issue.
Coun Ray Richardson told Wednesday’s parish council meeting that a resident had approached him over the problem in the Ward Lea area of the village.
He said off-road vehicles were creating deep ruts in the grass, adding: “It’s horrible. If you look round our village, most grass verges are churned up.”
Members again agreed to contact the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Highways department over the issue.
The council has previously written to both the county council and the police in connection with the issue.
But chairman Andrew Oliver said police had advised them that they did not treat it as a priority.
Meanwhile, Coun Fiona Trewartha told the meeting there was a similar problem in Eastgate, caused by the rubbish lorry having to be driven over the grass because the road wasn’t wide enough.
She said: “The East Riding are doing it.”
But resident John Allred said there had been a similar issue in The Maltings, when the lorry was being obstructed.
He added that it had only been resolved when staff warned residents they would have to stop collecting rubbish if the obstructions were not moved.
Mrs Trewartha replied that the lorry driver did not have any option other than to take to the grass.
