The Town Council has proved itself yet again a forward thinking authoriy that works very well with other agencies and promotes and protects the well being of Driffield and Little Driffield.

So said the mayor of Driffield, Coun Heather Venter, during the annual parish meeting at the community centre.

Giving her report of the year, Coun Venter said: ”The Town Council year has once again been interesting and varied, with a number of issues arising that we have had to consider and deal with.

“We held a consultation exercise in November and it was very well received with an excellent response rate, this document has proved invaluable when budget setting and gauging the views of our parishioners.

“The Town Council worked hard to achieve a budget that will manage to keep costs to a minimum for the precept payer but also leave us still able to maintain service provision.

The mayor said: “We have worked closely with many agencies throughout the year, particularly the Driffield Partnership which resulted in the very successful Real Driffield campaign and the Sensational Saturday markets, which have been re-established this year too.

“We did also tentatively look at the possibility of purchasing the Mortimer’s Mill buildings at Riverhead, this however is a potentially huge project that could not possibly be delivered in isolation of other organisations and agencies.

Coun Venter added: “Another major project which is progressing well is the Public Piece of Art, with the recent recruitment of a young and very up and coming artist, Joseph Hillier, to deliver this exciting new addition to the landscape of Driffield.”
