Ryedale District Council will reimburse all its direct debit customers who have incurred bank charges following an early payment of council tax instalments.
A spokeswoman for the authority said that an error had occurred in relation to direct debit customers who pay their council tax instalments on the first day of the month.
As New Years Day is a non-working day, direct debit payments are due to be collected on 2 January 2014.
“However, an administrative error has resulted in collection being made from bank accounts on 30th December 2013,”said the spokeswoman. “Ryedale District Council unreservedly apologises for this matter. Any customers who have incurred bank charges as a direct result of this error should contact Revenues & Benefits Services on 01653 600666 ext: 650 and advice will be given with regards to reimbursement.”
