Dancer Laura will be tapping for England

A DRIFFIELD dancer has tapped her way onto the world stage after securing a place in the national Tap Dancing Team.

Laura Sparkes, 18, of McIntosh Drive, will take part in the World Tap Dancing Championships in Berlin at the beginning of December after securing a place in the England Tap Dancing team.

Laura said she is looking forward to competing on a national level and preparations for the contest are going well.

She said: “I am really excited about representing my country and have just returned from three days down in Swindon where we began the routines for Germany.

“The routines are going to be fantastic and I can't wait to perform them.”

Laura is a former pupil of the Kate Hammond Academy of Dance, based in Nafferton, and is now into her third year of an ISTD Dance Teachers course at the Northern Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA).

Laura is already brushing shoulders with world-class dancers after successfully auditioning for the TapAttack Youth Company earlier in the year.

The company is an amalgamation of some of the most innovative tap dancers, teachers and choreographers from around the world.

“We bring a variety of styles and techniques and continually push the boundaries in all forms of tap dance,” she added.
